Houston – Florida – Houston – Melbourne

It has been too long since my last post, sorry. I am slowly finding my rhythm again….

Ok ,I went to the Quilt Market and Quilt Festival in Houston with a detour in between to teach my “Pêle-Mêle ” pattern in a lovely spot in Florida, Stuart. It was the highlight of my two weeks in the States. Jennifer from Redthread studio http://redthreadstudio organised my stay and it was magnificent, I met some lovely ladies and saw more inspirations for PM no 3 ( if I can get to it)!

The Quilt Market and Festival were awesome, an eye opener. The American quilters are different, I learned a lot, got some ideas and was quite surprised to found out there are some who are quite scared of needle turn appliqué. The Quilts on display were gorgeous, a lot done on domestic or long arm, and their Sapphire Celebration very inspiring. By the way I believe that our AQC show in April is as good as the Houston Show, on a smaller scale of course…

Back home I had to face a jungle ( the garden) busy bees ( they behaved and didn’t swarm) an 18yr old ( my son) going through final exams and schoolies ( glad it’s over) and a very messy sewing room with so many projects on the go it’s depressing…. so I started a new one ( small).

But the good news is “The BEe quilt ” is finished and the pattern nearly done, just needs to be check out by a couple of friends. And I am looking at selling some of my smaller patterns as download patterns…. Will let you know.

The view from the class room. Magic

Talk to you soon

Still Winter, Still Wet

First a big apologies to all my customers who have place an order on the website. I have moved to a new version of WordPress and new look, and we (my IT person and me) didn’t to tick some of the boxes and cross the other ones…. anyway it is all running now and ready for you.

On a personal note my daughter has come back from a month in Switzerland ( so nice to have her again) and my son is up to his ears in getting ready for final exams..

As for quilting I am currently working on few (too many) projects at once, one of them with bees (that’s the only tit bit of information you’ll get!) which I cannot put down…. so much fun.

I had never mentioned it ( still amazed) but Di Ford-Hall has appointed me to look after her class at Sewn and Quilted and the shop will be running a fundraising event for the Leukaemia Research Foundation, jump online to see how you can help

Anyhow today is still too cold to do anything in the garden so back to sewing 🙂

Cheers

Pêle-Mêle

Hello all,

It feels like I have hibernating for a long time but in fact the fingers have been quite busy…. After the tremendous success of “Pêle-Mêle” and feeling like more clamshells I designed and nearly completed a second version in modern fabrics with new designs. The release of this new version will be at the Brisbane show in Octobre. And the name ( drumroll ) “Pêle-Mêle …. encore”.

I am now clamshelled out for a bit.

Other exciting news I will be back next year in Nantes at the salon “Pour l’Amour du Fil” with Quiltmania, translating and teaching 2 classes, I am looking forward to it. More details later.

And our bees are doing very well, we are about to put the super ( that’s where they can store honey) on the hive and let them do their magic….

It has been a month already since I came back from Nantes and the Quiltmania expo with my head full of new ideas. The fingers can hardly keep up. I am about to finish a project, have started a couple of new ones ( as you do) and enrol for Spanish classes. I should be able to make myself understood by next year. It is wonderful to go back to studies especially for fun!

We have put the bees in their winter spot, hive in the sun and one less box to keep warm. They are still harvesting but like us at a slower pace.

I will be at the Victorian Quilter showcase, working behind the counter of Sewn and Quilted and this year I shall be going to the Brisbane’s show in October, I am looking forward to new horizons.

I’ll look forward to meet some of you to either of the shows.

Keep warm and keep stitching

It has been quite a while since my last post. The garden has taken most of my time, between weeding and planting and of course the bees…

It is a steep learning curve and fascinating. To my question will my bees swarm I had neither a yes or no and now I know why, basically you cannot predict if they will do it. Ours did, twice, it is a bit scary but magnificent to see a swarm. We caught the first one and put it in a new beehive, and we rehomed the second one. We now have 2 beehives and lots and lots of bees. And hopefully honey to last us a whole year.

And there is something to say about bees or pollinators in a garden, my apricot trees is loaded with fruits, and my red currants ( which never did really well for the past 5 years) the branches bending with the weight of little red berries. And the raspberries bushes…

I made a deal with my bees ( I have told them) I will be in the garden early and late during the day and they can have it for the rest of it, I got stung few times and I didn’t enjoy the experience (and the poor little ones died…).

And in between all of this I still manage to start few projects, and hopefully some will be well on their way to be finished by the end of the year ( at least one)

Stay cool and keep stitching

Mittens / mitaines

In Switzerland they are so hot it’s not funny and here I am seriously thinking of knitting  some jumpers for my chicken and scarves for the bees….

At least the sewing is going very well lots done, and lots more to do .. I am fencing my chicken in ( cannot let them run wild in the garden) and the broderie Perse is growing.

Keep warm ( and cool)

Cheers
